Felix Mobile cuts Unlimited+ plan to AU$25 for first six months

Felix Mobile is offering its 80Mbps Unlimited+ plan at AU$25 a month for the first six months, half the usual AU$50 price, for sign-ups before November 30.

The AU$25 promotional rate applies for six months before reverting to AU$50 a month. TechRadar reported the promotion represents an annual saving of AU$150. The plan runs on Vodafone’s 5G and 4G networks, has no lock-in contract and includes a seven-day guarantee that allows a full refund within seven days of activation if the customer is not satisfied. Unlimited international calls and texts to more than 40 selected countries are available for an additional AU$5 a month.

Felix Mobile has long been the sole provider of truly unlimited mobile data plans in Australia, with the limitation being download speeds. Before the Unlimited+ launch earlier this month, its only offering was 40Mbps for AU$40 a month. The Unlimited+ plan adds 40Mbps to that speed for AU$10 more a month at the standard price.

Most Australian telcos technically offer unlimited mobile data, but they generally throttle speeds significantly after a monthly allowance is used, usually to around 2Mbps. Felix Mobile’s Unlimited and Unlimited+ plans do not have data caps, and their speeds remain consistent at 40Mbps and 80Mbps respectively, compared with the minimum 100-150Mbps that most telcos offer, according to TechRadar.

TechRadar reported that the 80Mbps speeds on Unlimited+ would be virtually identical to a 100-150Mbps mobile plan for everyday browsing, social media and music streaming, and that 4K video streaming would perform similarly. It said users would only notice a difference when downloading large files and apps, which are better handled by home internet.

Felix recommends the Unlimited+ plan for personal mobile use only, with occasional hotspotting to personal devices such as laptops or tablets while on the go. The company says the plan should not replace a home or office internet plan or be used for continuous downloading of large files.
