Insta360 Ships Single-Lens Luna Pro in the US, Undercutting Its Own Ultra at $599.99

Insta360's new Luna Pro drops the Luna Ultra's telephoto lens but adds 4K vertical recording and goes on sale in the US for $599.99, where DJI's Osmo Pocket 4 remains officially unavailable.

The Luna Pro is largely a Luna Ultra with the telephoto lens removed, according to The Verge. It uses the same 1-inch-type 8K sensor as the Ultra's main camera and keeps a similar body design, including a detachable 2-inch touchscreen that doubles as a remote, four hours of battery life and an NFC tag for quicker file transfers. Losing the second lens makes it somewhat smaller and lighter than the Ultra.

The company did add one feature the Ultra lacks: the Pro can record 4K vertical video at 30 frames per second using that 8K sensor. Insta360's earlier Luna Ultra does not offer the mode, and The Verge reported that it has asked the company whether a firmware update will bring it to that model. DJI's Osmo Pocket 4 and 4P are each capped at 3K resolution when shooting in portrait, which forces some users to hold the entire gimbal sideways to capture vertical footage.

Pricing positions the Pro below Insta360's own flagship. The Luna Ultra sells for $769.99 in the United States, while the Pro is listed at $599.99. In Europe the Luna Pro starts at £469 or €529, slightly above the £429 or €479 DJI Osmo Pocket 4, which is not officially available in the US following a ban on the company.

The Luna Pro follows the Luna Ultra, Insta360's first compact steadicam, which reached the market earlier this year ahead of DJI with a two-lens design.
