Shaoshupai Restarts Matrix Weekly With Fountain Pen Review and September Purchase Lists

Shaoshupai has restarted its Matrix Weekly, combining community posts and author submissions. The Oct. 27 edition features an adjusted Jinhao 59 fountain pen review and 439 community members' September purchases, from smart-home gear to travel and an AI workstation.

The author submission section moved into the weekly, Shaoshupai said, while the submission channel and rewards remain unchanged. In the lead review, community member @Peggy_ described buying an adjusted version of the Jinhao 59 fountain pen, a cheap Chinese short fountain pen that closely resembles the Pilot 95s. The standard Jinhao 59 sells for 27.9 yuan and can be bought for 25 yuan with a 2-yuan coupon and rebate, while the Pilot 95s costs more than 600 yuan, according to the post. @Peggy_ said the adjusted EF-nib version cost 15 yuan above the official price and came in brown, the newest color. After adjustment, the nib wrote smoothly and with restraint, produced a slight pencil-like feedback and did not skip or scratch on various papers, the author wrote. The pen also ships with a screw converter and offers EF 0.38 mm and F 0.5 mm nibs, with the adjusted seller adding an EEF option. The author recommended that beginners start with affordable domestic pens to test nib width, appearance and weight before upgrading, because many premium pens cannot be returned once inked.

In the community discussion, Shaoshupai said 439 members responded to the 298th 'What good things did you buy in September?' thread. Their purchases ranged from small household items and clothing to travel and computing equipment. One member, Jenkin, listed a baby cloth book, discounted Uniqlo polo shirts, a 46 mm S12 watch bought for under 2,000 yuan after trading in an S7 for 749 yuan, a Laifen S4 hair dryer bought with a subsidy, a refurbished iPad Pro M1 and AppleCare coverage. Another member, @飛鳥花火, said a move to a smaller city with lower rent allowed for a larger apartment and a Mijia smart-home setup including bulbs, an air-conditioner companion, a curtain companion, a Wi-Fi gateway and a door lock. The member also bought a Roborock robot vacuum after a DJI Romo failed on arrival, and said an LG G6 television remained difficult to control by voice.

@飛鳥花火 also described building a separate AI workstation with a Ryzen 7 9700X processor, 48 GB of DDR5 memory, an RTX PRO 5000 48 GB graphics card, an X870E motherboard and a 4 TB SSD, at a total cost of just over 60,000 yuan. The machine is used for NAS and personal data storage with Immich, local model deployment and ComfyUI, with occasional gaming. The member said the setup replaced a ROG Ally X and a ROG 5070 Ti XG external GPU, which ran out of VRAM in ComfyUI and struggled with some games on an LG 55G6. High hardware prices led the member to postpone an 8 TB hard drive, the post said.

Travel spending also featured. Niki92 said round-trip flights from Shanghai to Chengdu for the Gongga loop cost nearly 4,000 yuan, with a 150-yuan per-person trip to Kangding and a 400-yuan per-person return to Chengdu by chartered car. The member reported four kinds of weather over four days of hiking and criticized a rented Sigma 16-300 mm lens, preferring Tamron. 云中的小白 bought round-trip flights to Xinjiang for 3,000 yuan and a six-person tour for 5,800 yuan, and used an Insta360 Luna Ultra camera. 任大喵 said a five-day trip to Okinawa with his wife cost about 6,000 yuan for two, including Shuri Castle, an aquarium, American Village and the island's annual drum festival.

Other posts covered a stamp punch for turning Pokémon tip cards into cards and fridge magnets; a pair of Genelec G1 speakers bought during the National Day holiday after selling a five-year-old Bose C50 for 1,000 yuan; a one-year print subscription to Caixin Weekly; a Taylor GS Mini guitar bought at Tom Lee in Macau; a Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max; and a car battery replacement ordered through Tuhu. The roundup presented the items as first-person community accounts.
