Android Authority poll finds no bugs for most One UI 9 installers

Android Authority poll: 54% of One UI 9 installers report no bugs; some cite stutter and notification issues.

The update brings new AI features, some interface changes and security improvements, according to Android Authority. Early builds have also produced issues ranging from icon bugs to a post-update “access denied” error that can prevent users from operating their devices, the report said.

Android Authority's poll received more than 1,500 votes. About 37% of voters said the update had caused no issues so far. After excluding the 31.7% who had not yet received the update, around 54% of users who installed One UI 9 had not noted any bugs, the report said.

Among all respondents, 22.3% said they had “encountered a few” issues after updating, and 9.1% said the issues were “minor or barely affect functionality.” Together, 31.4% of respondents reported facing a One UI 9 bug or issue, according to Android Authority.

Most commenters said One UI 9 performed well on their devices, Android Authority reported, but a few described negative experiences. Reader kevriveroc said the update introduced microstuttering throughout the interface on an S24 Ultra, with animations appearing janky when first rendered and smooth if the same animation was rendered again shortly afterward. The reader called it “infuriating to see an update behave like a downgrade.”

Heather Jackson said notification pop-ups stopped appearing after the One UI 9 update. Jackson said all settings had been checked, the phone rebooted and battery-saving mode examined, and that message notifications did not arrive while using the phone, including when plugged into Android Auto or listening to music. Jackson said the problem had lasted a few days and was already causing big problems.

Martin Reading said installing One UI 9 on a Z Fold 7 changed the navigation bar by restricting it to the left or right side of the main screen. In One UI 8.5 and earlier versions, Reading said, the navigation bar was spread across the entire width, which the reader preferred.

Android Authority said most readers who left comments had not experienced issues on their devices. The reported problems, however, illustrate the effect of installing a major software update immediately rather than waiting for unknown bugs to surface, the report said.
