BYD Launches Third-Generation Qin PLUS DM-i From 76,900 Yuan
BYD launches third-gen Qin PLUS DM-i in China from 76,900 yuan, with a larger body and up to 220 km EV range.
The car is offered in three versions. The 140KM Leading is priced at 76,900 yuan on the limited-time basis, the 220KM Beyond at 87,900 yuan and the 220KM Excellence at 97,900 yuan. Its dimensions are 4,840 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,498 mm high, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase and a 570-liter trunk, putting its footprint close to a standard mid-size sedan.
Exterior changes include the removal of the previous large front grille in favor of a semi-closed wind-breaking sport front face, a shark-nose surface, side air channels and sharper headlamps. A full-width rear light bar is fitted, and the model offers nine paint choices including new Island Blue and Titanium Gray.
Inside, the Qin PLUS DM-i offers Cloud Yarn Beige and Ink Smoke Gray color schemes. The dashboard and center panel use soft-wrapped materials and wood trim instead of piano-black plastic. A column-mounted electronic shifter replaces the conventional center-console lever, freeing space for a 50W wireless phone charging pad. The car also has hidden dual-layer air vents, a hidden flip hook on the passenger side and standard threaded mounts on both sides of the front dashboard for accessories such as phone holders. The rear seat cushion is 21 mm longer, and mid- and high-end versions add power adjustment, ventilation and heating for the front seats, with climate-linked automatic operation.
Power comes from BYD's fifth-generation DM system, combining a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid engine rated at 74 kW with a 120 kW, 210 Nm drive motor and an EHS hybrid system. BYD quotes 0-100 km/h acceleration of 7.5 seconds, or 7.7 seconds for 220 km versions, and minimum NEDC fuel consumption of 2.58 liters per 100 km with a depleted battery. The car uses 16.2 kWh and 24.3 kWh Blade plug-in hybrid batteries, giving CLTC electric ranges of 140 km and 220 km and a combined range of 2,290 km with a full tank and charge. The 220 km versions support 48 kW 2C DC fast charging.
The 220KM Beyond and 220KM Excellence also add a high-speed tire-blowout stabilization system that can adjust wheel torque and braking at speeds up to 140 km/h to help stabilize the car and slow it down. Advanced driver assistance is limited to the top 220KM Excellence, which standardizes BYD's God's Eye C system with highway and expressway navigation assist, valet parking and remote parking. The God's Eye B system with lidar, city navigation assist and the DiLink 150 premium cockpit is available only on that version as a 12,000-yuan option.
The new model faces competition inside BYD's own lineup. The automaker already sells the Seal 05 DM-i in the same segment, as well as the slightly higher-positioned Qin MAX DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i at close starting prices. At 97,900 yuan, the top Qin PLUS DM-i reaches the price band of the Qin MAX DM-i, which starts at 99,900 yuan. BYD positions the Qin MAX as a standard B-segment sedan replacing the Qin L. Compared with the low-end Qin MAX DM-i 230KM Leading, the top Qin PLUS has more comfort equipment, including seat ventilation and heating, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and ambient lighting, while the low-end Qin MAX lacks high-level driver assistance. The Qin MAX offers a slightly larger body, a 175 kW motor and a rear five-link independent suspension, while the Qin PLUS uses a rear torsion-beam suspension.
