Apple releases iOS 27.2 with expanded Siri AI and Group FaceTime Dual Capture

Apple released iOS 27.2 after six weeks of beta testing, adding more Siri AI languages, Group FaceTime Dual Capture, TV Multiview, Messages suggestions and security fixes.

The release follows iOS 27, which Apple shipped on September 14 with Siri AI. iOS 27.2 entered beta testing on September 16. iOS 27.1 was limited to the iPhone Duo, which was released last week and shipped with that version; with iOS 27.2, Apple's iPhone software update paths have converged, 9to5Mac reported.

Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple's release notes say Siri AI can recall past conversations, so users can ask about something it previously said, such as restaurants it recommended the week before. It can also draw from more sources, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails and improved results from Safari history and Reading List. A new Excluded Apps setting lets users choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access, and granular text selection lets users copy only the part of a Siri response they need.

Dual Capture, introduced in iOS 27 for FaceTime, now works in Group FaceTime calls. The feature keeps the front and rear cameras active at the same time so the other person sees the user and what the user is looking at. It requires an iPhone 17 or later, and everyone on the call must be running iOS 27. FaceTime in iOS 27.2 also supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call.

In Apple Podcasts, the Up Next queue has two new rows, New Episodes and Continue Playing. New Episodes shows the latest episodes from followed shows, while Continue Playing shows in-progress episodes organized by most recent playback. Episode lists now use color-matched backgrounds based on podcast art.

The TV app adds Multiview support to iPhone for the first time, allowing up to four live sports streams at once, including MLS, F1 and MLB. It also adds profiles to the iPhone TV app after the feature spent several years on tvOS.

Suggestions in Messages, tested in iOS 27 but removed before release, returns in iOS 27.2. It adds quick shortcut buttons that let users add items to apps such as Calendar and Reminders with one tap. Apple Music receives a new brand identity, including a new app icon and interface tweaks that change red accents to blue, as part of a larger rebrand Apple debuted last week.

iPhone Duo gains support for Apple Pencil (USB-C) and Edge Light, which adds a ring light around the display to illuminate the user's face during calls. Other changes include SynthID watermarking support in Photos and Image Playground, caption and comment editing plus expiry reminders in Shared Albums, context for friend suggestions and recent games in the Games app's Friends tab, smaller a.m. and p.m. labels in the Clock app, and an expansion of Call Context to anniversaries.

Apple lists security fixes for Mail, Safari, Apple Intelligence, the Neural Engine and other areas in iOS 27.2.
