Apple TV's Last Seen streams as Patrick Brammall teases unexpected ending

The series follows emergency dispatcher Ian Ridley, played by Patrick Brammall. Ian, described as a secret alcoholic, receives a call about a body found near his home and believes it may be his daughter, who went missing 11 years earlier. The TV adaptation moves the story from Texas to Australia, but keeps what TechRadar describes as a seemingly never-ending web of twists and turns.

In an interview with TechRadar, Brammall said Ian is not a hero. "His focus on paper is an altruistic one, but it's also mixed with hope, guilt, [and] everybody he's failed. There's a lot of collateral damage," he said. He added that when the audience first sees Sarah, played by Chloe Jean Lourdes, she is happy. "Nothing's black and white. As the series goes on, you can sort of see that Ian and Henry (Brendan Cowell) are two sides of the same coin."

TechRadar notes that by the end of the second episode, Henry appears to be an elusive villain who has held onto disturbing secrets for reasons that are not yet clear. The article says this makes Brammall's comparison between Ian and Henry feel less obvious at that point in the story.

Brammall told TechRadar that the ending shifts the story in a different direction. "By the end, the agency is taken away from them both and given to Sarah," he said. "I think that's completely unexpected. The ending is something that you wouldn't necessarily have anticipated, and it's not the sort of ending you'd usually get in a crime drama, either. That's a testament to how multi-layered the show is."

TechRadar said that if Last Seen delivers on that promise over the next few weeks, it will be unmissable television. The first two episodes are streaming now on Apple TV, with new episodes released weekly until October 7.
