Apple Watch Series 12 Brings Back Ceramic Case Option
Apple is offering a ceramic case for the Apple Watch Series 12, its first ceramic Apple Watch since 2019. The finish starts at $899, or $949 for the 46mm size.
Apple did not revive its Apple Watch Edition branding for the Series 12. The company stopped using that name in a forward-facing way when the Series 4 launched. The ceramic option is positioned as a more durable, higher-priced alternative to the standard models, aimed at buyers willing to pay well above the entry-level price.
The launch adds to Apple's history of changing the most expensive case material offered for the Apple Watch. The first Apple Watch came with an 18-karat rose or yellow gold case option. Apple then used ceramic as its premium option for the Series 2, Series 3, and Series 5. After the Series 5, ceramic disappeared from the lineup. The Series 4, Series 8, and Series 9 had stainless steel as their most expensive case option, while the Series 6, Series 7, Series 10, and Series 11 topped out with titanium.
The Series 12's ceramic configuration is the first return to the material since the Series 5. Its $899 starting price places it $500 above the Series 12's $399 entry point, and the 46mm version costs $949. The option will be available in the two ceramic finishes, pearl white and night blue.
