AWS Elemental Adds AI-Powered Multiview and Ad Tools Ahead of IBC 2026
AWS announced new AWS Elemental capabilities that embed AI into live video pipelines, adding server-side dynamic multiview, real-time scene analysis, low-latency ad insertion and automated ad yield optimization for broadcasters and streaming platforms.
The company said the changes are designed to address three demands that broadcasters have struggled to meet simultaneously: customizable camera angles, real-time personalization and more relevant advertising. Kali Ridley, senior technical industry product marketing manager for media and entertainment at AWS, said each capability has historically required its own vendor, pipeline and operational overhead, forcing teams to choose which to pursue first rather than delivering all three at once.
AWS Elemental MediaPackage Dynamic Multiview lets viewers select their own camera angle from multiple feeds of the same event. The system stitches multiple feeds into a single compressed domain from one set of encoded sources generated by AWS Elemental MediaLive, avoiding the need to re-encode each feed. Ridley said this reduces layout infrastructure costs by up to 97% and can stream to nearly any consumer device over standard HTTP Live Streaming or Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP.
Indian livestreaming platform JioHotstar is among the first broadcasters to use the multiview capability. Akash Saxena, chief technology officer at JioHotstar, said the service lets the platform deliver multiple synchronized camera angles within a single stream, giving subscribers control over how they experience live sports. He said the server-side composition approach scales the premium experience to more than 100 million viewers without multiplying origin complexity or CDN costs, providing a differentiator in India’s competitive OTT market.
For editing and advertising workflows, AWS introduced AWS Elemental Inference Contextual Metadata. Computer vision models run in parallel with video encoding to extract real-time, scene-level metadata from live feeds. Ridley said that data can be routed into downstream workloads to enable instant highlight clipping, contextual ad placement and content moderation.
AWS Elemental MediaTailor Yield Optimization is a new capability intended to solve content monetization problems. It automatically fills vacant ad slots on demand using insights from Amazon Publisher Services. By stitching ads into content before delivery, AWS says campaigns can play smoothly without buffering while bypassing ad blockers. Broadcasters can set custom price floors and brand safety filters to prevent competitors’ ads from appearing in adjacent slots.
The company also introduced AWS Elemental MediaTailor Low-Latency Ad Insertion, which enables targeted ad delivery in low-latency livestreams. AWS said this allows broadcasters to monetize live sports and breaking news with dynamic ad revenue. The combination of AWS Elemental MediaTailor and Amazon CloudFront helped South American livestreaming platform DSPORTS monetize its recent FIFA World Cup coverage. Claudio Rodrigues da Silva, head of IT at StreamCo, said DSPORTS held six seconds glass-to-glass with ads running across every match, achieving low-latency monetization that had not been done on the platform before.
The live streaming industry has grown to a global market worth more than $100 billion, according to Grand View Research, but most platforms still struggle to meet viewer expectations. AWS said the new capabilities share a key innovation: intelligence is layered inside existing video pipelines rather than bolted on afterward. The updates were announced ahead of the IBC 2026 conference in Amsterdam, which showcases advances in media, broadcasting and entertainment technology.
