Bank of America Warns Customers Not to Give AI Assistants Banking Credentials
Bank of America warns customers not to share banking credentials with AI assistants, citing possible liability for activity.
The bank told customers they could be held responsible for activity resulting from voluntarily granting an AI agent access to their accounts, subject to applicable consumer protections, the report said.
The warning comes as AI assistants such as Gemini, Claude and ChatGPT become more autonomous, and banks grow increasingly concerned about unauthorized access and liability, according to Android Authority.
The report said AI assistants can write emails, book appointments, shop on a user's behalf and handle other tasks. It added that letting an AI assistant manage a calendar is different from trusting it with a customer's savings.
Bank of America's warning appeared in a message that also promoted its own investments in AI to make banking easier, more personalized and more secure, according to the report.
