Samsung’s Galaxy Buds On Clip-On Open-Ear Earbuds Set for US Launch Nov. 6 at $229

Samsung’s clip-on Galaxy Buds On open-ear earbuds launch in the US on November 6 for $229.

The US date and price were confirmed by Samsung, Android Authority reported. Engadget described the Buds On as Samsung’s first clip-on, open-ear wireless earbuds and noted that Samsung had offered an open-type design before with the Galaxy Buds Live. Android Authority called the Buds On Samsung’s first open-ear earbuds, a difference in how the two reports characterize the product’s place in Samsung’s lineup.

The design wraps around the ear rather than sealing the ear canal, Android Authority reported. Users can adjust the angle of the band to fit their ear shape. Engadget reported that Samsung used data from more than 119 million ear scans to shape the fit across ear sizes and that the buds are designed for a low-pressure fit. The earbuds have an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, both reports said.

Because the buds do not form a seal, they do not offer active noise cancellation, Android Authority reported. Samsung instead uses opposite-phase sound waves to reduce sound leakage, the publication said, describing the system as reverse ANC. Android Authority reported that the feature is enabled by default and does not consume additional battery power. Engadget said Samsung calls the technology Audio Leakage Reduction and that it protects reversed sound waves at the rear of each bud to cancel leakage.

Each bud has two 11.3mm drivers and uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform, according to Android Authority. The publication reported support for Samsung’s SSC-HQ codec and said Samsung claims enhanced bass compared with earlier Galaxy Buds models. Engadget reported that the buds include a new high-efficiency Class-D amplifier intended to balance power consumption and sound output.

Samsung estimates 9.5 hours of music playback on a single charge and 38 hours with the charging case, Engadget reported. Android Authority reported the same 9.5-hour figure and said the case supports wireless charging. Android Authority said the charging speed was not known.

For calls, Engadget reported that the Buds On have three microphones and a voice pickup unit that detects speech vibrations, with algorithms trained on ambient sounds including construction noise and car horns. Android Authority said the buds are designed for clearer calls. The earbuds support head-gesture controls: a nod or shake can accept or decline calls and dismiss alarms and notification readouts, Engadget reported. Samsung says the buds work with Galaxy phone features including Gemini Live and Quick Voice Memo, and connect to Galaxy phones when the case is opened, according to Engadget.

Android Authority reported that the Buds On lack Bluetooth multipoint, so they cannot stay connected to multiple devices at once. The publication also reported that they will be sold in one black color and one size. The $229 price and Nov. 6 US release date apply to that configuration, Android Authority reported.
