Blizzard Announces Diablo V for Spring 2029 and Netflix Animated Series
Blizzard announced Diablo V for spring 2029, a Diablo animated series with Netflix, and Diablo IV for Switch 2.
For the game, Engadget reported that Blizzard's teaser video and article only hint at a continuation of the story after the events of Diablo IV, but suggest players will be thrown straight into hellfire. TechRadar described the next installment as fully embracing bleakness, defeat, darkness and hopelessness for Sanctuary.
The animated series confirmation was equally light on details, according to Engadget. There is no release date yet, and Blizzard has not said which animation studio is handling the adaptation. The company said it will have more to share throughout the development process and hinted that "Sanctuary's darkness is spreading."
Rumors of a Diablo television adaptation have circulated for years. Engadget noted that a 2020 report hinted a Diablo TV series would be made in an anime style and was in preproduction, with Netflix in charge of distribution.
Beyond Diablo V and the Netflix series, Blizzard also hinted at similar adaptations for other popular titles, including Overwatch and Warcraft, Engadget reported.
The announcements came during BlizzCon, the company's fan convention. Engadget said the Diablo V news was unexpected for the franchise, while TechRadar reported that Blizzard also confirmed Diablo IV is coming to Switch 2.
