Instagram Adds Tagged Posts to Profile Grids

The Tagged tab remains in place and continues to show all posts in which a user has been tagged. The new option allows users to promote specific tagged posts to the main grid, which Instagram says can be used for favorite group photos, creator collaborations and memories, according to Engadget. In practice, users can add any tagged post they want.

There are several ways to add a tagged post. Users can do it from the direct message notification they receive when they are tagged, from the three-dot menu on the post itself, or by pressing and holding a post in the Tagged tab. Engadget reported that beneath the “Add to grid” button, a notice says that even if a post is added to a profile, who can see it depends on the privacy settings of the user's account and the account of the user who tagged them.

The original post stays where it was published. TechCrunch reported that adding it to a grid does not delete or duplicate the original, and users can remove it from their profile at any time without removing it from the Tagged tab. Tagged posts added to the grid appear in reverse-chronological order by default, but users can rearrange them. Instagram introduced the ability to reorder posts on a profile in June, Engadget reported, after the feature had been announced a year earlier.

TechCrunch reported that the feature could also be useful for creator collaborations, giving creators another way to showcase posts they have been tagged in without republishing the same content or using the “Invite collaborators” option. It could also be used for brand campaigns involving multiple creators who want to highlight a piece of content they were all tagged in on their profiles.

The update is part of a broader push by Instagram to give users more control over their profiles, according to TechCrunch. Instagram introduced the “Reorder your grid” feature in June. It has also added “First Draft,” an editing feature that automatically trims selected video clips and removes pauses to create an initial cut, and “Replace Audio,” which lets users update the music on an existing post whenever they want.
