iPhone 18 Pro Reaches 50 Percent Charge in 15 Minutes With Apple's 40W Dynamic Adapter

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro charges from zero to 50 percent in about 15 minutes with its 40W dynamic power adapter, roughly 33 percent faster than earlier Pro models. Preorders open Saturday, with shipping from September 18.

Apple says a five-minute top-up provides about six hours of video playback. The company describes the iPhone 18 Pro as offering better battery life than its predecessors along with the faster charging.

Peak charging speed requires a 60-watt USB PD 3.1-compatible power adapter with the Adjustable Voltage Supply feature, per Apple's specifications. The Apple 40W dynamic power adapter, rated for 60 watts maximum output, is currently the only readily available charger meeting those requirements, 9to5Mac reported.

Third-party bricks rated above 40 watts, such as Anker's 45-watt model, lack Adjustable Voltage Supply, and 9to5Mac expects the iPhone 18 Pro to behave as the iPhone 17 Pro did with them, reaching 50 percent from empty in about 20 minutes. MacBook chargers rated at 96 watts or 140 watts also lack the feature, the site said. 9to5Mac said it would run charging tests with third-party adapters once it has the phones.

For wireless charging, Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro goes from zero to 50 percent in about 30 minutes when used with the Apple MagSafe Charger and any 35-watt power brick.

Preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro open Saturday, and the first units ship on September 18. Apple's foldable iPhone Duo, scheduled to ship next month, will support the same faster charging speeds when used with the accessories described above. Apple no longer includes a power adapter in the box, shipping only a USB-C cable.
