iPhone Duo's Shift Left Edge Setting Adds Fake Bezel for Cases, Report Says
9to5Mac reports iPhone Duo has a Shift Left Edge setting that adds a black border to the outer screen for cases.
The iPhone Duo software’s description for the setting says it “moves content when you are using a case that partially covers the left edge of the outer display of your iPhone,” 9to5Mac reported. A short demo video from Lellouche shows that with the option turned on, the black border on the left edge of the outer display is roughly doubled in width.
It is unclear what kind of cases would require the setting to be enabled. Apple is offering two first-party case accessories for the iPhone Duo at launch: the iPhone Duo Case and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand. Without proper hands-on time, it is hard to tell whether those cases significantly overlap the left edge and obscure screen content, but it does not appear likely to be an issue, according to 9to5Mac. The report said it is possible Apple envisages the setting as useful for other case designs, perhaps more rugged options from third-party accessory makers.
More information may become available closer to launch. The iPhone Duo is scheduled to go on sale next month, on October 23rd.
