M-Hero X700 and Wey Gaoshan 8 HEV launch in China with family-focused lineups
M-Hero has launched the X700, its first unibody SUV, priced from 209,800 yuan, while Wey has added the Gaoshan 8 HEV MPV from 259,800 yuan, both aiming at buyers moving beyond hardcore off-road or conventional fuel MPVs.
The X700 is the first mass-production M-Hero model to use a unibody structure rather than a ladder frame, a shift the brand describes as "pan-off-road" rather than hardcore off-roading. The five-seat SUV measures 5,035 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,890 mm tall, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase. It comes in four versions: the 325 km rear-drive Pro at 209,800 yuan, the 285 km four-wheel-drive Max at 229,800 yuan, the Max+ at 249,800 yuan and the 360 km four-wheel-drive Ultra at 269,800 yuan. All prices are limited-time prices, according to the report.
Despite losing the ladder frame, M-Hero kept off-road hardware. The Ultra, with standard dual-chamber air suspension, has a maximum ground clearance of 328.8 mm in extraction mode, approach and departure angles of 37.5 and 38.3 degrees, and 800 mm wading depth; in standard mode, clearance is 228.8 mm with 30- and 31-degree angles. From the four-wheel-drive Max trim, the X700 gets a rear mechanical differential lock, an intelligent e-lock and terrain modes including mud, snow, sand, wading and rock crawling. Max+ and Ultra add AI terrain recognition, and both can be optioned with a 2.5-tonne towing package and full-size externally mounted spare tire.
The X700 uses what M-Hero calls Rock 2.0 chassis technology: MRC magnetorheological dampers, dual-chamber air suspension with 150 mm total height adjustment and a magic-carpet preview system, coordinated through Huawei's XMC digital chassis engine. The three four-wheel-drive models use a 1.5-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid system with front and rear electric motors, producing a combined 518 kW and 940 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 4.93 seconds. Pro, Max and Max+ use a 51.46 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery, while the Ultra has a 68.1 kWh battery and an 800V platform, giving it 360 km CLTC electric range and 1,312 km combined range.
Inside, all X700 versions have ventilation, heating and massage for front and rear seats, active cushion firmness and front-seat side bolstering. From Max+, the front passenger seat gets a zero-gravity function with a 127-degree recline and a 7-liter heated and cooled box. The cockpit uses Huawei's HarmonyOS Cockpit 6 with a 15.6-inch center screen; Max+ and Ultra add a same-size passenger screen, and the Ultra gets a Huawei XHUD off-road head-up display. All versions carry Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 driver assistance, with ADS 5 Pro on Pro and Max using an in-cabin common-path lidar, and ADS 5 Max on Max+ and Ultra using an 896-line dual-light-path lidar. The system supports NCA off-road navigation assistance on rural roads and unpaved surfaces, according to the report.
Wey's Gaoshan 8 HEV is a non-plug-in hybrid version of the Gaoshan 8 MPV, positioned for buyers who lack convenient charging. It comes in two trims: the Comfort Edition at a limited-time 259,800 yuan and the Premium Edition at 279,800 yuan. The MPV measures 5,280 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,145 mm wheelbase. Wey replaced the plug-in version's 53.9 kWh battery with a 3.64 kWh unit and swapped the 1.5-liter engine for a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, while retaining front and rear electric motors and Hi4 intelligent four-wheel drive.
The Gaoshan 8 HEV uses a rear five-link independent suspension with aluminum components, R-EPS electric power steering and FRD frequency-responsive dampers. Wey says its turning radius is 5.7 meters. The cabin has a flat floor, a 1,930 mm rail shared by the second and third rows, rotating second-row seats and bed modes; cargo capacity expands from 435 liters to 1,901 liters. Front seats have ventilation, heating and massage. The Comfort Edition's second row gets ventilation, heating and leg rests, while the Premium Edition upgrades to zero-gravity seats with 12-point massage and adds ventilation and heating for the third row. A 12.5-liter refrigerator, tables, sunshades and a 220V outlet in the cargo area are included.
The MPV has eight double-glazed windows, active engine noise cancellation and a claimed 62.5 dB cabin noise level at 120 km/h. It runs Coffee OS 3.5 on a Qualcomm 8295P chip, with dual 15.6-inch 2.5K front screens, a 26-inch augmented-reality head-up display and a 17.3-inch rear screen. Coffee Pilot 3 uses a 192-line front lidar, an Orin-Y chip with 200 TOPS, 11 cameras, three millimeter-wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, for highway and city NOA and memory parking. Wey says high-strength steel accounts for at least 80.34% of the body, with 2,000 MPa steel in the A- and B-pillars and side curtains covering all three rows and holding pressure for six seconds. The Gaoshan family delivered 32,148 vehicles in the first half of 2026, up 186.04%, according to Great Wall Motor's interim report as cited by Aifanr.
The Gaoshan 8 PHEV Smart Edition is priced at 309,800 yuan and offers a larger battery, 270 km CLTC electric range, dual lidars, a 700-TOPS Thor-U chip and a 21.4-inch rear screen. Wey is pitching the HEV as a bridge for traditional fuel-MPV buyers rather than a replacement for the PHEV, the report said. M-Hero, meanwhile, is using the X700 to move from its ladder-frame off-road image toward family use while retaining off-road equipment.
