Open-source Android Auto Maker puts nearly any phone app on car dashboard while parked

Android Auto Maker runs nearly any app on a car dashboard while parked, with advanced navigation while driving.

The utility was developed by malebuffy on GitHub, the same developer behind Xtream Player, according to Android Authority. It repackages an APK or XAPK file so the app registers with Android Auto's "parked apps and games" category. That allows games, video players and utilities to appear on the infotainment screen once the car is parked. The tool is available as an Android APK or through a local PC web server.

Using the tool requires Android 15 or newer and a complete uninstall of the original apps, the report said. To use navigation apps while driving, users must keep Shizuku active and the screen unlocked. The report also lists compatibility limits: sideloaded packages will not update through Google Play, and DRM-heavy or banking apps with Play Integrity checks will likely fail. Certain Chinese OEM skins may require helper tools to work.

Getting full apps onto a car's dashboard has historically meant rooting, dealing with screen-mirroring quirks or relying on specialized multimedia players such as Xtream Player, according to Android Authority. Android Auto Maker is presented as a way to repackage apps for native dashboard use while parked, without that rooting process.

Editor's Summary

Android Auto Maker repackages APK and XAPK files to place nearly any Android app in Android Auto's parked-apps category, with an advanced option for navigation while driving. It requires Android 15 or newer and has limits involving Play Store updates, Play Integrity checks and some Chinese OEM skins. The tool offers a sideloading route to dashboard apps without rooting, but users face setup and compatibility constraints.
