Microsoft Copilot Adds CarPlay Support, Leaving Google Gemini as Last Major AI Chatbot Holdout

Microsoft Copilot now works with CarPlay, becoming the latest major third-party AI chatbot on Apple's car platform. Google Gemini remains the last major holdout, according to 9to5Mac.

The report said CarPlay now works with six major third-party AI chatbot apps. Microsoft added CarPlay support to its Copilot chatbot app for iPhone. Conversational apps for CarPlay require iOS 26.4 or later, 9to5Mac reported. The app appears to require a subscription to work with CarPlay, and the voice-driven app mirrors chat history from the iPhone app, including text-based threads.

Copilot joins Siri AI, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity, SpaceXAI's Grok, Meta AI and Anthropic's Claude as CarPlay options, according to the report. Starting Monday, CarPlay will also include a dedicated Siri AI app. That is when iOS 27 will be officially released and out of beta, though Siri AI itself will still be in beta and rolled out in waves.

Google Gemini remains the only major AI chatbot app absent from CarPlay for now.
