Mobile Pixels prices Prisma, a 40-inch curved 5K monitor built around the Mac mini, at $999 for early backers
Mobile Pixels' Prisma, a 40-inch curved 5K monitor with a dock, M.2 slot and Mac mini cradle, is up for $999 preorder on Kickstarter.
The display uses an LG IPS Black panel with a 5120 x 2160 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Mobile Pixels lists quasi-10-bit colour reproduction covering about 1.07 billion colours and 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut, which the company positions toward photo editing, video production and other colour-sensitive work.
An integrated docking station provides USB-C, USB-A and USB-B connections along with SD and microSD readers. A built-in KVM switch lets two connected computers share the same peripherals, and Picture-by-Picture mode shows both machines' outputs on screen at once. An M.2 expansion slot allows additional internal storage to be installed without an external enclosure.
The monitor's supporting structure includes a cradle for the Mac mini and Mac Studio, keeping the computers off the desk. The cradle has an active cooling fan that adjusts its speed according to temperature; Mobile Pixels has not published detailed thermal performance figures. A USB-C port can charge laptops, and a 15W wireless charging pad sits in the base for compatible phones. A retractable mount for an iPhone supports Apple's Continuity Camera features, including Center Stage and Desk View.
Although the cradle is shaped for Apple's compact desktops, Mobile Pixels says the Prisma also works with Windows laptops, PCs and other devices through its connectivity options.
The $999 Kickstarter offer represents a 38% discount, or $601 off the $1,600 retail price, though shipping can add up to $80 depending on the buyer's location. The discounted allocation covers 260 monitors, of which 255 had been reserved at the time of writing, leaving five units.
The campaign had raised $434,707 from 392 backers against an original $15,000 goal, with 23 days remaining. Mobile Pixels also accepts $10 contributions from supporters who want to fund the project without receiving a monitor. Deliveries are estimated for January 2027.
TechRadar noted that Kickstarter contributions do not guarantee product delivery, even when a campaign exceeds its funding target, and that crowdfunding projects carry risks including delays, changes to specifications or non-delivery.
