Mozilla Adds AI Form Filling and Website Monitoring to Firefox Smart Window
Mozilla added AI form filling and site monitoring to Firefox Smart Window beta for U.S. and Canada desktop users.
Smart Window was introduced nearly a year ago as AI Window, a feature that let Firefox users interact with an AI assistant while browsing, including summarizing content, comparing information across tabs and answering questions without leaving the browser. It was later renamed Smart Window and has gained capabilities including AI-powered web search, automatic tab grouping, duplicate tab detection and natural-language search of browsing history.
The new form-filling feature can draw context from other open tabs to suggest answers for web forms, going beyond traditional autofill that typically handles saved information such as names, addresses and contact details. Mozilla said Smart Window could use information from an online portfolio or professional profile to fill in work history, or use those details to draft an answer to a question such as “Tell me about a time when…” Firefox’s regular autofill continues to handle saved information like name and address, which can be entered into forms without relying on AI models. The feature relies on Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite model to analyze form fields and extract relevant information from selected tabs, meaning information from those pages is shared with the AI model for processing, according to the report.
The website-monitoring feature works similarly to Safari’s “Notify Me” feature introduced with iOS 27 and macOS 27. Users type /watch in the Smart Window chat to ask Firefox to monitor webpages for specific changes, such as price drops, product availability or new job listings, and Firefox notifies them when those changes are detected. Users can choose daily or weekly checks and can monitor up to five webpages per task, though monitoring runs only while Firefox is open. When there is a match, an update appears through the Tasks button in the toolbar; if desktop notifications are enabled, Firefox can also notify users directly, and clicking the notification opens the watched pages. Users can have up to 15 active tasks at a time and can edit, pause or delete tasks. Smart Window automatically pauses tasks after 60 days without a matching change and stops checking altogether after 90 days without a change. The feature relies on an AI model to process information, with Mozilla using Qwen to identify changes that match what users are looking for.
Both features are now available in the Smart Window beta for Firefox desktop, limited to English-language users in the U.S. and Canada. Mozilla said they will “roll out to additional markets in the coming months.”
Editor's Summary
Mozilla added AI-powered form filling and website monitoring to the Smart Window beta for Firefox desktop, initially for English-language users in the U.S. and Canada. The form-filling feature uses Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite, while website monitoring uses Qwen to detect specified page changes. Mozilla plans to expand the features to more markets in the coming months.
