Netgear's Nighthawk M7 Pro 5G router falls to a record-low £700 on Amazon, while the cheaper Nighthawk M3 drops to £370.
According to TechRadar, the M7 Pro scored 4.5 stars in its review and carried the site's Pro Highly Recommended badge. The publication lists 5G speeds of up to 6 Gbps, tri-band Wi-Fi 7 including the 6GHz band, a 2.5GbE multi-gig Ethernet port for wired connections, and a USB-C port for power, charging and data transfer. The router takes unlocked SIM cards and is compatible with networks in more than 125 countries, and an optional 5G antenna can be attached to boost the mobile signal. A 2.8-inch display shows settings such as the data allowance and connection type, and Netgear says the device acts as a portable firewall where users go, which the company argues makes public Wi-Fi more secure.
TechRadar tested the router in the New Forest and in the more densely populated Salisbury. It connected the device to several colleagues on the same mobile wired network for file transfers while working away from home broadband, and concluded that there was no comparison between using a phone as a hotspot and using the M7 Pro.
The router depends on mobile network coverage, so buyers need to supply their own SIM card and use it in areas with a 4G or 5G signal. During the New Forest tests, TechRadar said it struggled to get more than one bar on a 5G band but picked up 4G with a full five bars, which allowed work to continue.
Netgear's Wi-Fi 6 alternative, the Nighthawk M3, is also discounted, to £370 from £449. TechRadar gave that entry-level model 4.5 stars as well, citing its 5G connection and a 5Gbps USB-C port, and describes it as sufficient for everyday mobile use where Wi-Fi 7 is not required. The M7 Pro has generally held close to its £900 list price since launching last year, which TechRadar cites as the reason the current discount stands out.
