Samsung May Add a Second Wide Foldable Alongside Galaxy Z Fold 9
Samsung reportedly tests larger “Plus” and cheaper “FE” Galaxy Z Fold 9 variants, with only one expected alongside the wide model.
The report said stronger-than-expected demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has led Samsung to examine a larger “Plus” model and a more accessible, specification-trimmed “FE” variant. The planned variation would sit alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 9 (Wide), but Samsung reportedly intends to bring only one of the two to market.
According to Android Authority, the details come from leaker Lanzuk (yeux1122) on Naver, citing unnamed display supply chain sources. The leaker said Samsung is internally testing a wide Plus-like model with slightly larger dimensions and a second FE-like model with slightly reduced specifications while keeping the existing size.
The work remains in early testing, the report said, and would not materialize until at least mid-2027. That timetable leaves the plans subject to change.
Android Authority said Samsung’s shift toward a wider aspect ratio on its book-style foldable appears to be paying off, pointing to demand for the Fold 8 as the reason for the expanded test. Under the reported plan, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 (Wide) would be joined by either a larger Plus variant or a cheaper FE variant, not both.
