Seven-Country Delegation Tests Apollo Go During 2026 CIFTIS, Discusses Green Mobility

Nearly 20 officials and legislators from seven countries visited Baidu's Beijing Apollo Park on Sept. 12 during the 2026 CIFTIS, experiencing Apollo Go robotaxis and discussing green mobility, smart transportation and sustainable development.

The visitors were from CVF-V20, the Climate Vulnerable Forum-Vulnerable Twenty, according to the report. The platform was founded in 2009 and has 74 member states across Africa, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, with a combined population of more than 1.7 billion. It focuses on climate resilience, green investment, technology access and sustainable development. The group included Nasir Ali Khan, provincial minister for forestry, wildlife, parks and environment affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, and Don Hector Hyginas Appuhamy Markawita Arachchige, a member of Sri Lanka's parliament. Wang Yunpeng, vice president of Baidu Group and president of its Intelligent Driving Group, accompanied the delegation.

Romina Khurshid Alam, Pakistan's prime minister's coordinator for climate change and environmental coordination, said after the ride: "I really like it. The vehicle drove very smoothly, like an experienced driver. I hope it can be introduced to our country soon and be deployed in more countries around the world." The delegation learned about how Chinese autonomous driving technology is used in real traffic scenarios, the report said.

As a platform for China to expand high-level opening-up and promote global service trade cooperation, the 2026 CIFTIS gathered global companies and institutions and became a window for other countries to observe China's technological innovation and industrial development, according to Lei Feng. Autonomous driving is one of the most representative fields in that window.

In 2025, more than 200 million passenger trips per day in China chose green modes of travel. As metro, bus and cycling became common commuting options in many cities, improving convenience, comfort and service for different groups and scenarios became an issue as green travel moved from scale expansion to quality improvement. That also created space for new technologies such as autonomous driving. Green development is the background of high-quality development, and new quality productive forces are inherently green productive forces. Autonomous driving, as a typical application combining new energy vehicles, artificial intelligence and smart transportation, is a concrete practice of that idea in transportation.

A report by CATARC said that compared with traditional gasoline vehicles, pure electric vehicles reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by 43.4 percent. Apollo Go combines pure electric models, artificial intelligence and mobility services, turning the application of green technology into a passenger experience. Apollo Go has entered 28 cities globally, including Beijing, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Haikou, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It has provided more than 23 million rides, with total autonomous driving mileage exceeding 350 million kilometers, including more than 240 million kilometers of fully driverless mileage. From domestic cities to overseas markets, exploration under different road environments and mobility needs provided a practical basis for exchanging experience on technology application and service support. In the future, Apollo Go will enter more countries and regions, the report said.
