2027 Range Rover Electric Debuts With $138,000 Price Tag

The outlet reported that JLR provided flights from Washington, DC, to London and accommodation for the press visit, allowing Ars to drive the vehicle at its factory. The new variant joins the existing internal combustion and plug-in hybrid Range Rovers, and is designed to be a Range Rover first and an EV second. Exterior changes are subtle, including a smoother front grille, more aero-efficient wheels, and a flat underbody; the absence of tailpipes is the clearest visual indicator.

According to Ars Technica, JLR said it already has 80,000 hand-raisers for the electric model, half from North America. Of those, 70 percent are new to the Range Rover brand, and 20 percent already own an EV. The outlet noted that only a fraction of those expressions of interest will likely convert to actual sales.

The article also noted that JLR was among the first automakers to announce a shift away from combustion engines, though the timeline has slipped due to factors including the pandemic and supply chain issues. Previously, the only way to get an all-electric Range Rover was through restomod conversions, which retain the flaws of classic vehicles and can be far more expensive. At $138,000, the new model is roughly half the cost of such conversions and comes with modern safety systems and a full manufacturer warranty.
