9to5Mac: iOS 27 revamps Apple Pay checkout and fixes three longstanding Mail issues
According to 9to5Mac, iOS 27 delivers a redesigned Apple Pay checkout flow and repairs long-standing Apple Mail bugs, improving usability and reliability.
The new Apple Pay design appears when checking out in apps or on the web. The report calls it “a fantastic upgrade that’s better in every way” because it addresses two main faults of the old design: unintuitive card switching and onscreen data that was hard to parse at a glance.
In iOS 27, the checkout interface shows additional cards on either side of the default card, making it clear that users can swipe between them to switch. The screen also displays more information at once and uses colorful icons for shipping method, address, and billing details, allowing users to verify everything before quickly double-clicking to pay.
The report notes that Apple Pay is one of the world’s most popular payment methods, with Walmart finally adding support. Changing a design used by millions involves risk, but the reviewer says Apple has handled the redesign well.
Separately, 9to5Mac reported that iOS 27 fixes three issues in Apple Mail: improved unread badge accuracy, faster message loading, and more reliable search indexing. These changes were highlighted on a slide containing hundreds of small and large iOS 27 updates.
The Mail report’s author says unread badge accuracy has been a personal annoyance for years, with Mail often showing phantom badges or inaccurate counts. He adds that message loading is speedier and that search improvements are a noticeable upgrade in iOS 27.
Both reports present these changes as part of a broader iOS 27 update that also includes features like Siri AI and upgrades to productivity apps. The Mail fixes join several new features, making it a good time for longtime users to revisit the app.
