Aaron Kwok-Backed Yijing X9 Launches, Bringing Huawei's Full-Stack Intelligent Tech to a 30k-Level Family SUV

At the launch event, which was endorsed by Hong Kong actor and racing enthusiast Aaron Kwok, Huawei's CEO of Intelligent Automotive Solution BU, Jin Yuzhi, introduced the vehicle's core intelligent features. The X9 is equipped with six Huawei Qiankun intelligent solutions, including Huawei Qiankun ADAS, HarmonySpace cockpit, Qiankun smart motion platform, Qiankun vehicle-mounted optical system, Qiankun cloud, and 5G communication.

The most notable component is the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, which uses the new WEWA 2.0 architecture. According to Huawei, the system's "world engine" upgrades cloud training from single-vehicle to group-level interaction, while the on-board system adopts a defense-driving strategy based on safety risk fields, actively choosing lower-risk paths in complex scenarios. The system also upgrades from CAS 4.0 to CAS 5.0, adding full-time-domain safety covering pre-warning, in-event avoidance, and post-accident rescue.

For perception, the X9 features 32 high-performance sensors, including 11 high-definition cameras, four lidars, and distributed 4D millimeter-wave radar. The most eye-catching hardware is the 896-line dual-optical-path image-level lidar, which can stably identify obstacles over 14 centimeters high at distances beyond 120 meters even without streetlights at night. Three additional solid-state lidars cover the sides and rear-lower areas to enhance automated parking perception. The vehicle also introduces an in-cabin AMS fusion sensing system that can detect children leaning out of windows, people or pets in seat blind spots, and occupants left behind after exit.

Inside, the X9 debuts the HarmonySpace 6 cockpit and a new-generation Xiaoyi AI assistant. The system uses a multi-agent architecture to handle navigation, vehicle control, and entertainment simultaneously. There is also an AI companion robot named "Ha Mengmeng" that can attach to the screen and provide facial feedback. The cabin features ten displays, including dual 17.2-inch 3.4K anti-glare screens and a 32-inch laser projection system supporting up to five simultaneous projections.

Beyond software, Dongfeng has focused on the fundamental needs of a large SUV. The X9 has a wheelbase of 3.12 meters and near 3.3 meters of interior length. The third row can accommodate two adults of 1.85 meters, with a lateral space of 1.1 meters and a backrest angle up to 133 degrees. Cargo volume is 484 liters with all seats up, expanding to 1,368 liters in four-seat mode. The second row features zero-gravity seats with additional safety structures, including a seat-frame follow mechanism, side and cushion airbags, and an integrated seatbelt. Six cabin modes include a super king-sized bed mode that extends to 2.5 meters when both second and third rows are folded.

To address the challenge of driving a 5.3-meter vehicle in urban conditions, the X9 comes with rear-wheel steering, reducing the turning radius from 5.8 meters to 5.3 meters, close to A0-class cars. It also features a 90-millimeter travel dual-chamber air suspension and CDC variable damping shock absorbers. The all-aluminum chassis is coordinated through Huawei's XMC digital chassis engine, managing powertrain, braking, steering, suspension, and thermal management.

The X9 is offered in three trims: a rear-drive Max long-range version at 299,800 yuan, an all-wheel-drive Ultra+ long-range version at 339,800 yuan, and a top-spec Ultra+ flagship long-range version at 379,800 yuan. Even the base version includes HarmonySpace 6, Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, the 896-line lidar, and dual 17.2-inch screens. The higher trims add dual-motor four-wheel drive, a four-lidar setup, and dual zero-gravity seats with 14-point massage. During the pre-sale period, deposits of 2,000 yuan can be applied as 5,000 yuan, and the vehicle comes with a lifetime warranty for the whole vehicle and three-electric system.

The launch of Yijing X9 represents a new cooperation model between a central state-owned automaker and a technology company. Unlike previous supply-chain-level partnerships, Dongfeng and Huawei began joint work from the product definition stage, covering development, manufacturing, and marketing. For Huawei, this is a significant step beyond its HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, testing whether its intelligent vehicle technology can be integrated into a traditional automaker's system. For Dongfeng, the model is a bet on combining its engineering strength with Huawei's software capabilities, as competition in the new energy vehicle market shifts from electrification to intelligence.

With the X9's price range of 299,800 to 379,800 yuan, it enters the fiercely competitive segment of family SUVs, where models like the AITO M9 and Li L9 have already established their presence. The X9 aims to attract both Huawei technology enthusiasts and families seeking a practical large SUV. Whether this combination can stand out in the crowded market remains to be seen.
