Agentic AI Foundation Adds Four Open-Source AI Projects
AAIF adds four open-source AI projects from OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face and Alibaba, bringing its total to 10.
The first project, Open Responses, was donated by OpenAI and addresses a longstanding problem for developers who use cloud-based large language models through application programming interfaces. Each LLM provider uses a different API, so software written for one provider cannot be easily moved to another without extensive code changes. Open Responses provides a standardized template for implementing AI model APIs and was modeled after OpenAI’s own API. Developers can move code between APIs that use Open Responses without major changes, and OpenAI-powered workloads can be moved to APIs based on Open Responses and vice versa, according to the report.
Anthropic donated Agent Skills, an open-source project it released last December. It provides a standardized format for implementing skills, which are collections of resources that improve an AI agent’s output quality, including instructions for carrying out a task, illustrative examples and automation scripts. Packaging skills in a standardized format makes it easier to share them between development teams without changing file structure before connecting them to a workload. Organizing data consistently also makes it easier for AI agents to process, lowering the risk of hallucinations.
“The AAIF has done important work in giving the Model Context Protocol (MCP) a neutral home since we donated it less than a year ago, and alongside the AAIF, we’re committed to continuing to invest in open source agentic tooling for builders everywhere,” Anthropic engineer David Soria Parra said in the report.
The two other projects focus on sandboxes, the technology environments that simulate infrastructure on which an LLM is expected to run in production. Hugging Face donated OpenEnv, which reduces the work involved in switching training systems that coordinate sandboxes and automate repetitive management tasks. Alibaba donated OpenSandbox, a set of APIs for managing sandboxes that eases tasks such as connecting agents running inside sandboxes to external applications.
