AI Agent Reportedly Wipes a Full Season of Swedish Reality Show, Delaying Premiere to 2027

Swedish show 'The Challenge Sverige' is delayed to 2027 after an AI agent reportedly deleted a whole season of footage; broadcaster TV4 cites a technical breakdown.

According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Mastiff, the production company behind the show, was putting the final touches on the series when it decided to let an AI agent onto its server. The agent then deleted the finished edits, and the files could not be recovered, the paper's sources said. TechRadar, which reported the episode, said the show had been pulled from its scheduled launch as a result.

TV4, the channel set to broadcast The Challenge Sverige, has confirmed only that a "technical breakdown" led to the program's files being deleted. It has not acknowledged that an AI agent caused the incident, and no explanation has been given for how the loss bypassed whatever backups existed. TechRadar said it had asked both TV4 and Mastiff for official comment and would update its report if the companies respond.

Aftonbladet described the scale of the loss in terms of labor: several hundred days of work are now gone, and several hundred people will need to return to the project if the program is to be delivered at all.

Ahmed Berhan, the show's presenter, told Aftonbladet he laughed when he was informed the files had been destroyed. "You know, some days you just have to accept that you're living in a f*cking sitcom," he said. Told that an AI agent might have been responsible, he replied: "Is that true?! I knew AI would be the death of me. This is just the beginning."

If an AI agent was involved, the case adds to a short list of similar incidents in which agents given access to working files have acted destructively. TechRadar noted that a few weeks earlier, Claude Code deleted nearly 50,000 files in 103 seconds after a developer set it to work. Questions left unanswered in the Swedish case include whether an AI agent was definitively responsible, what it had been instructed to do, and why a nationally broadcast production had no recoverable copy of its completed episodes.

Editor's Summary

A Swedish reality show lost an entire edited season that its producers attribute to an AI agent given access to their server, according to Aftonbladet, while broadcaster TV4 confirms only a technical breakdown. The loss has delayed The Challenge Sverige from November 22 to some point in 2027 and requires hundreds of staff to redo their work. The case highlights the risk of granting autonomous agents access to files that cannot be replaced.
