AirPods 5 reportedly launching in two models alongside iPhone 18, analyst says
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple will launch AirPods 5 in two models, including an ANC version, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. TechRadar’s commentary urges value, fit, battery and audio improvements.
Gurman’s information points to a standard pair of earbuds and a pricier version with active noise cancellation. TechRadar notes the launch timing could shift, but Apple often uses one large event to introduce several products.
The move would extend the approach Apple took in 2024, when it offered AirPods 4 in two versions: standard and with ANC. The ANC edition received a slightly more positive review from TechRadar.
TechRadar contributor Tom Bedford argues that the non-Pro AirPods need better value. He writes that the AirPods 4 were not expensive, but the Nothing Ear (a) offered ANC and better sound for less money, making the AirPods weaker budget choices. By comparison, he calls the AirPods Pro line excellent value.
Bedford also wants changes to fit, noting that semi-open earbuds can fall out during exercise. He would like longer battery life closer to 10 hours without ANC, improved detail and resolution in audio, and, though he considers it unlikely, real Android support. At present, most AirPods features require an iPhone, and Android support has been Beats’ role in Apple’s portfolio.
He expects AirPods 5 to be an iterative update and camera-equipped AirPods to wait until next year. In his view, targeted improvements could make the new models feel meaningful even after only two years.
