Amazon Blocks Meta’s AI Agent Muse From Shopping on Amazon.com

The block prevents the AI agent from completing purchases on the e-commerce platform, and it frames the restriction as a matter of Amazon’s Conditions of Use, to which Amazon customers have agreed.

The block can be seen as a confrontation between two technology giants. Amazon has its own cohort of foundation models, along with one of the most popular inference platforms on the internet. As long as Amazon is under no legal obligation to open its doors to Muse, the company has little apparent reason to do so, TechCrunch reported.

There are also operational reasons Amazon might not want to be in the agentic commerce business yet. If Muse makes a bad order, Amazon would be the one to clean it up, dealing with both the angry customer and the angry vendor. Muse has one of the lower hallucination rates among AI models, but that rate is still pretty far from zero. Even if Amazon sees an opportunity in agent-driven commerce, it may want to wait a few more release cycles before rolling anything out, according to TechCrunch.

For now, Amazon’s error message tells users that it considers Muse an unauthorized AI agent. Shoppers who rely on Meta’s AI assistant to buy goods on Amazon.com must look elsewhere.
