Amazon cuts Echo Dot Max to $79.99 ahead of Prime Big Deal Days as Echo lineup discounts arrive early
Amazon has cut the Echo Dot Max to $79.99, a 33% discount, ahead of Prime Big Deal Days on October 6-7, as prices drop across its Echo speaker range in the US and UK.
TechRadar's guide lists four current Echo speaker options: the Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Dot Max, and Echo Studio. They share Alexa built-in, but differ in speakers, audio processing, microphones, smart-home hub features, and price. Amazon also sells the Echo Show range, which has Alexa and speakers but works more like a full smart-home hub because of its large screen.
The cheapest is the Echo Dot (5th gen, 2022), listed at $79.99/£79.99. It is the smallest option, with a three-microphone array and a single 1.73-inch front-firing speaker. TechRadar says it offers the basics and is best for small spaces or bedrooms, such as playing a morning alarm or giving weather updates. It has no audio enhancement technology, so it is probably not ideal for music listening.
The Echo Spot (2nd gen, 2024) costs $109.99/£109.99. It has the same key specs as the Dot but adds a screen that displays the time as well as reminders, timers, weather, and song titles. TechRadar describes it as a strong bedroom choice for people who prefer visual cues over relying on voice control alone.
The Echo Dot Max (1st gen, 2025) is priced at $119.99/£119.99. It is positioned above the standard Dot as a mid-range Alexa speaker and is built more for sound, with a 0.8-inch tweeter and a 2.5-inch woofer, lossless high-definition audio support, automatic room adaptation, and an extra microphone for a four-mic array. It uses an AZ3 processor, includes a built-in smart-home hub, and supports Omnisense. TechRadar says it is much more suitable for large spaces and is best for living rooms or communal areas.
At the top of the range is the Echo Studio (2nd gen, 2025), listed at $219.99/£219.99. It resembles a larger Dot Max and adds a 3.75-inch high-excursion woofer and three full-range drivers. It offers distortion reduction, lossless high-definition sound, automatic room adaptation, Amazon Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos, along with a four-mic array, an AZ3 Pro processor, a built-in smart-home hub, and Omnisense. Amazon recommends it for large communal spaces.
Omnisense appears on the Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio. According to TechRadar, Amazon says Omnisense "leverages a range of sensors and signals" to let Alexa "intelligently act on various events happening in and around your home, enabling more personalized, proactive, and helpful experiences." One example given is launching a particular morning routine when it detects that a specific person is in the room.
Android Authority reports that the Echo Dot Max deal saves $40 from its $119.99 recommended retail price and is the lowest price since summer Prime Day. The publication says the speaker keeps everyday Alexa tools, including smart-home control, Wi-Fi setup through the Alexa app, Voice ID, notifications, and troubleshooting features. It also offers privacy controls such as a physical microphone-off button, which the publication says is useful in shared spaces like kitchens, living rooms, or bedrooms. The Echo Dot Max is compatible with supported stereo and home-theater-style speaker setups, allowing it to fit into a larger audio system later. For buyers who want better audio than a regular Echo Dot without moving up to the Echo Studio, Android Authority calls the discounted Dot Max a more tempting buy.
