Amazon launches Alexa+ in India with Hindi support

Amazon launched Alexa+ in India with Hindi and English support, early access for all and Prime inclusion later.

The assistant is available to all customers in India in Early Access in Hindi and English, Amazon said. After the early testing period, the company plans to make Alexa+ free for Prime customers, while non-Prime customers would pay ₹2,000 per month, or about $20.85.

Amazon said the upgraded Alexa has a more expressive voice and can handle complex multi-step tasks. Those include ordering groceries from Amazon's quick commerce service Amazon Now and turning smart home devices on or off. Users can switch between English and Hindi mid-sentence, the company said.

Alexa+ is integrated with India-based services including food delivery service Swiggy, Zomato's ticket booking platform District, travel websites TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip, and restaurant reservation app EazyDiner. It also works with music streaming services such as Amazon Music and JioSaavn.

TechCrunch reported in June that Amazon had invited users to enroll in a testing program for Alexa+, through which they could have conversations with the assistant in Hindi. The company later started testing an English version of Alexa+, according to TechCrunch.

Amazon launched Alexa in India in English in 2017 and added Hindi support in 2019. India has more than 600 million Hindi speakers, and Amazon is trying to tap that market with its smart devices and new features. The company did not disclose absolute numbers, but said its smart home devices have grown by 20% from last year.

Amazon initially announced generative AI-powered Alexa+ in 2025 and made it available to all U.S.-based users in 2026. This year, the company has also launched the new assistant in markets including the U.K., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Italy and Germany with local language context.
