Amazon October Prime Day early deals target home-office upgrades, TechRadar says

Amazon's Oct. 6-7 Prime Day brings early home-office deals, led by tested mini PCs, monitors, printers and peripherals.

TechRadar's guide lists laptops and mini PCs among the early offers. It recommends an AMD Ryzen 7 170 laptop with 16GB DDR5 memory and a 512GB SSD for remote workers and students who want a reliable ultraportable with up to 15 hours of battery life; the publication gave it four stars but said it lacks the specifications for serious workloads. For professionals, students and creators, it highlights an AMD Ryzen 7 640HS mini PC with 32GB DDR5 memory and a 1TB SSD, which received 4.5 stars and was even used for gaming. TechRadar noted it has USB4 and 2.5G LAN ports but is not a graphics powerhouse out of the box, and said a UK deal has cut its price to £560 from £590.

The guide also flags Apple's new Mac mini as seeing its first price cut. TechRadar said the previous model scored five stars, and it described the new Mac mini as a better performer than the prior version, though not by a large margin. The UK price listed is £824, down from £899. Another mini PC, with an AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H, 16GB LPDDR5 memory and a 512GB SSD, is recommended for remote workers needing a budget machine for daily tasks. It scored 4.5 stars, handled productivity workloads and video calls, and includes OCuLink and dual 2.5G LAN ports, but its memory cannot be upgraded; it is listed at £350, down from £439.

For monitors and displays, TechRadar points to a Dell 32-inch 4K monitor for professionals and creators who want a well-priced screen. The publication cited Dell's record in its monitor reviews and noted the display has a 120Hz refresh rate and 95% DCI-P3 coverage, with a UK deal price of £335. It also recommends a 15.6-inch portable monitor for business travelers, which received four stars and was described as 'a super-light, hyper-functional portable display that is great to have as an extra display for all of your tech.' That model is listed at £89, though TechRadar said it expects the price to fall further once Prime Day begins. A 16.1-inch portable display, used by the editor for work and play, scored 4.5 stars and offers 2.5K resolution at 180Hz; it is not small but is light enough for travel, and is priced at £160.

Among printers, TechRadar's top home pick is a cartridge-free model for remote workers, students and small business users. It scored 4.5 stars and has more features and free ink than any other printer the publication has tested at its price, with a UK deal price of £370, down from £460. For families, professionals and students who print more casually, the guide suggests an inkjet model with print, scan, copy and fax functions, automatic two-sided printing and an automatic document feeder. It is listed at £122, down from £130, but TechRadar warned that inkjet cartridges add to ongoing costs compared with an ink tank. A cheaper printer for occasional use, from a trusted brand, includes print, scan and copy functions but is not fast and can incur cartridge costs; it is priced at £33, down from £56.

In peripherals, the guide highlights a Samsung SSD for professionals and creators who need large storage and fast transfers. It scored four stars, reaches speeds up to 2000 MB/s and has 3-meter drop resistance, with a UK deal price of £192, down from £239. TechRadar also recommends a 200W six-port Anker Prime Charger, which scored 4.5 stars and was described as one of the best fast-charging docks the publication has tested; it is listed at £52, down from £70. For home-office workers, families and gamers, it suggests a tri-band mesh router rather than a dual-band eero 7 to eliminate dead zones.
