Amazon Offers Three Months of Kindle Unlimited Free Ahead of October Prime Day

Amazon offers three months of Kindle Unlimited free to new and select returning readers, saving $36.

The offer is open to new Kindle Unlimited readers and some returning ones. Eligibility can vary by account. ZDNet said one colleague could see the three free months, while another could not because that account had recently used another free offer and then canceled. After the promotional period, subscribers will be automatically charged the full $11.99 a month plus taxes. They can cancel at any time before the charge, so the offer can be used without paying if they decide not to continue.

Kindle Unlimited provides access to a library of more than 5 million digital books and thousands of audiobooks. ZDNet said the catalog includes recent bestsellers, popular series, classics and novels from authors such as Colleen Hoover and Frieda McFadden. Titles include The Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games series.

ZDNet rated the deal 5 out of 5. It said the discount saves $36 over three months and gives readers a lower-risk way to test Kindle Unlimited for longer than the usual 30-day free trial. The publication also said it expects price drops on Kindle devices during October Prime Day next week and advised readers to watch its best deals page.

The deal expires with Prime Big Deal Days on Oct. 7. ZDNet noted that deals can sell out or expire at any time. It said its team regularly checks deals to ensure they are still live and obtainable.
