Amazon's New Kindles Add Flush Screens, Aluminum Backs and a Page-Turn Remote
Amazon's new Kindle e-readers add flush front screens, an aluminum back option and new colors, with a Kindle Click remote and a page-turn-button case for the Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Editions, according to The Verge.
The same newsletter reported that Amazon has introduced a "Kindle Click" remote that lets readers turn pages and adjust brightness. The Verge described the new base e-readers as a solid upgrade over earlier generations, and said that although an older Paperwhite was still working well, the new models would be tempting options if it stopped.
OpenAI's Dots also appeared in the roundup. The Verge called it a Muse-like AI agent that the company is pitching primarily as a tool for work rather than an all-encompassing assistant for personal life, a broader role the newsletter suggested may arrive later. It described the Dots as adorable while giving the Muse mascots the edge on cuteness.
Eleven years after its initial launch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is receiving another large update, according to the newsletter. The free update for existing owners adds visual improvements, changes to skills, a new accessibility section in settings and cross-platform mod support. The game is also now available on Switch 2.
Bose's Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds were listed at $99, with USB-C connectivity, active noise cancellation, an in-line remote for volume control and a built-in microphone for calls, in three colors. The Verge compared them favorably with Apple's wired EarPods on quality.
Bandai Namco's Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve was described as a thrilling entry in the fighter-pilot franchise, with a campaign filled with optimism, and has become one of the best-reviewed games of the year. Keurig's Alta coffee machine brews using compostable pucks rather than recyclable pods and can also make espresso, at $499.99; the newsletter noted that the convenience of a Keurig can be hard to match, which may make the Alta appealing to people who want more Earth-friendly pods. HP's OmniBook 5 14 was cited as thin and light with 8GB of RAM, several color options and a starting price of $699.99, positioning it as a Windows alternative for buyers drawn to Apple's entry laptop. Ikea's Förlig LED lamp switches between 10 colors, can be placed on a floor or mounted on a wall and resembles a lightsaber.
The items appeared in Installer No. 146, a weekly newsletter that also featured Scott Stein, an editor at large at CNET, describing his phone and apps. Stein said he uses an iPhone 16 Pro Max and randomizes his home screen by combining suggested Siri app widgets with fixed apps, including Google Calendar, Photos, Notes, Camera, Music, Gmail, Google Maps, Bluesky, Phone, Messages, Mail and Safari.
