Amazon Says Fix Coming for Alexa Plus Bug That Has Echo Speakers Repeating 'Lalala'

Some Echo speakers running Alexa Plus have spent minutes repeating or singing "lalala," including mid-conversation with users. Amazon calls it a bug affecting a small number of users and says a fix is in the works.

The behavior has been reported on Reddit repeatedly over the past few weeks, most recently three days before The Verge published its report, and across multiple types of Echo speaker. Users describe the devices falling into the loop in the middle of ordinary conversations. When they then ask Alexa about the behavior, the assistant appears entirely unaware of what it has been doing.

Several users have uploaded videos of the malfunction. Android Authority posted one such clip to YouTube, showing a speaker producing the repeated syllable.

Amazon is aware of the problem. In a statement to Android Authority, the company said the fault affects "a small number of Alexa Plus" users and that a fix is in the works. The company did not say when the fix would be released or what was causing the speakers to repeat the phrase.

The Verge reported the issue as part of its coverage of Alexa Plus, the assistant software involved in the affected devices. The reports on Reddit span several weeks and more than one Echo model, though the number of users affected has not been disclosed beyond Amazon's description of it as small.
