Amazon’s Blink Adds 4K and Long-Range Cameras in Five-Model Launch

Blink announced five cameras, led by its first 4K model and a long-range trail camera, with US preorders from $50.

The $79.99 Blink Mini 4K Plus is Blink’s first camera to support 4K resolution, according to The Verge. It is designed for indoor and outdoor use and has Wi-Fi 6, two-way audio and Smart Alerts that detect people and vehicles. ZDNet reported that the wired camera has a 115-degree field of view and dual-band Wi-Fi 6, and described it as the flagship of the new lineup.

At the top of the range is the $199.99 Blink Frontier XR Plus, a trail camera intended for large properties that would normally require several cameras or specialized monitoring equipment. The Verge reported that it can cover up to 7,000 feet with a clear line of sight, making it Blink’s farthest-reaching camera. ZDNet reported that the Frontier XR+ comes with the Sync Module XR+ and can monitor distant areas such as gates or cattle areas, not only function as a trail camera.

The $149.99 Blink Outdoor 2K XR Plus is the second extended-range model. The Verge reported that it can reach up to 800 feet with some obstructions or up to 2,700 feet with a clear line of sight. ZDNet reported that it also includes the Sync Module XR+.

Blink also announced the $109.99 Spotlight Cam 2K Plus, a battery-powered 2K camera, and the $49.99 Mini Pan-Tilt 2K Plus, the least expensive model in the group. The Mini Pan-Tilt offers 350 degrees of pan and 115 degrees of tilt, along with night vision, two-way audio and motion detection for people and vehicles, according to The Verge. ZDNet reported that the Spotlight Cam 2K+ has four LED spotlights and that the compact Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ is weatherproof and can be used outdoors with a Blink Camera Outdoor Adapter.

The two reports used different model names and slightly different prices. The Verge listed the Frontier XR Plus, Mini 4K Plus, Spotlight Cam 2K Plus, Mini Pan-Tilt 2K Plus and Outdoor 2K XR Plus, with prices of $199.99, $79.99, $109.99, $49.99 and $149.99. ZDNet used the names Frontier XR+, Mini 4K+, Spotlight 2K+, Pan-Tilt Zoom 2K+ and Outdoor 2K XR+, and rounded the prices to $200, $80, $110, $50 and $150. The Verge described the Spotlight Cam 2K Plus and Mini Pan-Tilt 2K Plus as Blink’s first battery-powered spotlight and pan-tilt cameras, respectively; ZDNet described the Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ as a compact replacement for an earlier pan-tilt Blink Mini.

Optional subscription features including video descriptions, motion-activated notifications and 60 days of cloud video storage start at $3.99 per month, The Verge reported, and users can instead record locally on a Blink Sync Module. All five cameras are available for preorder in the U.S. starting Oct. 21, though availability in other regions will vary by model. Blink had not specified when the cameras will begin shipping, and The Verge said it had asked for clarification.
