Amazon’s new Kindles appear to have a light leak problem
Some users report shadows and visible LEDs around the screen edges of Amazon’s new base-model Kindles, especially in dark mode, while Amazon has not issued an on-the-record response.
The latest base-model Kindles have a flush bezel that gives them a sleek appearance, which holds up when the lights are on. But according to The Verge, the experience can change when users turn down the lights and increase the brightness on the e-reader. Reddit users have reported shadows around the screen edges, and in some cases they see visible LED strips. The issue appears to affect both the plastic and aluminum models in all colors.
Some minor glowing around the edges might be a byproduct of the combination of front lighting and a flush screen. But Reddit users say images shared on the site show something more dramatic that appears to be a defect, according to The Verge.
The Verge reported that Good e-Reader said Amazon is aware of the issue and has confirmed that a manufacturing issue may have led to defects in the current batch of Kindles. However, when contacted by The Verge, Amazon declined to provide an on-the-record statement.
