AMD expands FSR 4.1 to Xbox consoles, handhelds and older Radeon GPUs
AMD extends FSR 4.1 to Xbox consoles, handhelds and RX 6000 GPUs; Xbox timing is still unannounced.
Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs, Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series devices, and Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series devices will begin receiving FSR 4.1 today with the latest Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers, AMD said. The driver update also covers Gorgon Halo- or Strix Halo-powered devices. Xbox console owners will have to wait. Neither Microsoft nor AMD would say when FSR 4.1 will arrive on Xbox consoles; both list it as "coming soon."
FSR 4.1 can improve performance in more than 300 supported games, AMD said, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6 and Assassin's Creed Shadows. AMD launched the update for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in March and promised to bring the technology to older GPUs this year.
The release comes weeks after Sony and AMD teamed up to bring Quick Spectral Super Resolution to the base PS5, based on their Project Amethyst work. Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's computer and graphics group, said AMD wanted to bring that work to more gamers. "We didn't just bring it over, we made it better," Huynh said. "We went back into the model, we tuned it and optimized the code path."
Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet said Microsoft had worked closely with AMD to optimize the technology and give developers another tool for performance and visual quality. "Our teams are continuing to work together across hardware and software, and there's even more ahead with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power what comes next," Van Vilet said.
The Verge reported that FSR 4.1 could have a big impact on Xbox console games, particularly on the lesser powered Xbox Series S.
