Analogue Pocket Pre-Orders Reopen October 2 at $240

Units ordered in the drop are expected to ship within two weeks, according to Engadget. The Pocket last went back on sale in March, when Analogue also raised the price by $20, an increase the company tied to tariffs. The handheld now costs $240.

The Pocket is not an emulation machine. It is built to run original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges at 10 times the resolution of the original hardware, with what Analogue describes as far better color. Cartridges scale without distortion, so the games look sharper than they did on the handhelds they were made for.

Engadget's review at launch called the device "possibly the best way to relive the golden era of handheld gaming." The portable market has changed considerably in the years since, and that assessment could be argued with today, but the appeal of sliding an original Link's Awakening cartridge into the slot and seeing it rendered on a modern LCD screen remains.

Analogue has not said how many units will be available in the October 2 drop. Engadget advised buyers to be in the queue when pre-orders open, since previous restocks have sold out quickly.
