ANBERNIC shows off dual-screen RG DS Plus with stylus slot and mic

ANBERNIC has showcased the RG DS Plus dual-screen handheld with a stylus slot and hinge microphone, according to Android Authority.

The video reveals that the RG DS Plus includes a capacitive stylus and a storage slot, allowing users to keep the stylus on hand when not in use. A microphone positioned in the hinge mimics the location of the Nintendo DS microphone. The device appears to be a follow-up to last year's RG DS, but it runs Linux rather than Android.

ANBERNIC says the handheld will ship with a new Nintendo DS emulator called NNDDSS, a name that mirrors the PSP emulator PPSSPP. According to Android Authority, the emulator supports screen swapping, touch control for the lower display, a real-time clock, save states, the microphone, and over 70 built-in shader options. It remains unclear whether NNDDSS is a brand-new project or is derived from existing emulators such as Drastic, DSemuME, or MelonDS.

Other features visible in the video include two 4.3-inch displays with a 1,024 x 768 resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio, a free-stop hinge, dual USB-C ports, dual microSD card slots, four digital shoulder buttons, a single analog stick, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a pair of front-facing speakers.

Core processor and memory specs have not been announced. The choice of Linux and the presence of two microSD slots suggest a relatively low-end configuration, as many ANBERNIC Linux handhelds lack built-in storage and use one card for the operating system and a second for games and files.

Android Authority also notes that ANBERNIC quietly listed a separate device this week, the $38 RG 35, which features a Game Boy-like design, two analog sticks, a 3.5-inch LCD, a Rockchip RK3326 processor, 1GB of RAM, dual microSD slots, and a 3,200mAh battery. No release date or pricing for the RG DS Plus has been provided.
