Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 Lands for Pixel Testers, Minus Pixel 11 Builds

The release came earlier than the roughly two-week pace Google has kept on its Quarterly Platform Release betas, which give users an early look at features before they reach stable Android. Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 arrived in late August, and Beta 5 followed last week. Testers can now install build CP41.260831.007, according to Android Authority, which reported the rollout.

Beta 5 was the first QPR2 release to support Pixel 11 models. Beta 6 stops at the Pixel 10 series. On the Reddit thread where Google shared the news, the company's Mishaal Rahman said the gap would be short-lived: "Builds for the Pixel 11 are coming, stay tuned!"

The fixes in this build cover several issues Google tracked by number. They include a visual regression that let letterboxed content leak through the status bar during activity transitions, a screensaver that displayed a blank screen while charging, and unexpected reboots on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold when initializing the camera viewfinder in third-party applications. Google also addressed locked applications that could not be dismissed with swipe gestures in Recents, a system kernel crash that rebooted devices when third-party applications requested simultaneous camera and microphone access during biometric identity verification, and an issue that caused devices to crash, reboot or hang while scrolling.

Testers who have not yet joined the Android 17 QPR2 program can register their device for Google's Android Beta for Pixel program. Android Authority advised backing up all data before installing the beta.

Android Authority said it would begin digging into the release and report any new features it finds.
