Android Authority comparison finds OPPO and Pixel camera phones closely matched

Android Authority: OPPO Find X10 Pro Max and Pixel 11 Pro XL are closely matched camera phones with distinct strengths.

According to the report, OPPO's lead is clear on paper. The Find X10 Pro Max uses a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and f/1.5 aperture, a 200MP ultrawide with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/2.2 aperture, a 200MP telephoto with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/2.1 aperture, and a 50MP front camera. The Pixel 11 Pro XL has a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and f/1.68 aperture, a 48MP ultrawide with a 1/2.51-inch sensor and f/1.7 aperture, a 48MP telephoto with a 1/1.95-inch sensor and f/2.8 aperture, and a 42MP front camera. Google's phone also features upgraded main and ultrawide sensors and a larger 5x telephoto lens intended to capture more light, the report said.

In everyday main-camera shooting, the comparison found the phones very evenly matched. Both produced top-notch color, detail and low-light performance, and the differences were not obvious at full-frame on a phone or laptop screen. OPPO's default 26MP output could offer slightly more detail, but its 200MP resolution was not a game-changer, according to the report. The Pixel applied more aggressive processing and noise reduction, while OPPO images showed more natural grain; neither leaned heavily into oversaturated colors, though the Pixel's main camera often came out more vivid.

The report said OPPO's newer Samsung ISOCELL HPC sensor appeared to have an edge in low light when shooting without long-exposure Night modes, with less noise and better color capture and contrast. It also said the OPPO main camera seemed to have marginally better HDR capabilities than Google's Pixel series. OPPO's sensor uses Samsung DeepPix, which the report said is more efficient at transferring electrons, converting them into readable voltage and storing them, enabling up to 17 stops of dynamic range without software that can cause ghosting. In practice, the advantage was subtle; in rare cases of deliberate bright backlighting, the Pixel 11 Pro XL looked a little washed out with a subtle cold hue, while the OPPO sensor did not encounter the same issue.

The ultrawide cameras showed the largest specification gap, with the Pixel's 1/2.51-inch sensor much smaller than OPPO's 1/1.56-inch sensor. Even so, the report said both looked very good at full-frame, with only minor differences in white balance and color saturation. Both handled dynamic range well in a lake shot that balanced sun breaking through an overcast sky against distant tree shadows, and they offered a similar field of view. OPPO's ultrawide showed slightly more chromatic aberration at the lens edges, but neither produced aggressive warping. Cropping into the images, the report said, showed where the larger sensor investment paid off, even before considering the extra resolution available from the Find X10 Pro Max.
