Android Authority Highlights Google-Free Chromium Browsers for Android

Android Authority highlights Bare, Titanium and Solipsism, Chromium-based browsers that reduce Google integration on Android.

The report said most Android users stay with Google Chrome because it is quick and stable, but power users who want to reduce big tech influence on their phones face Google integration in the default browser. It cited constant prompts to log into a Google account and the absence of extension support in official mobile Chrome builds.

Bare Browser, formerly Chromium Extend, is described as a patch series rather than a fork. According to Android Authority, it removes Google sign-in prompts, telemetry and AI features, supports desktop-class extensions including uBlock Origin, and allows add-ons through CRX files. The report said Bare also supports external download managers, long-press media saving, custom search engines and layout customization. It has just marked its first stable release and is based on Chromium 156, an early stable build, making it more bleeding-edge than some alternatives on the list.

Titanium Browser is based on GrapheneOS's Vanadium Browser, according to the report, and focuses on improving security and privacy where possible on Android while also targeting desktop platforms. On large-screen devices, the report said, it provides the full Chromium desktop user interface. Titanium also offers developer tools, Manifest V2 extension support and the option to install extensions from other web stores such as Opera and Edge; Android Authority described its animations and loading times as pleasant and fast.

Solipsism Browser applies desktop-style vertical tabs to mobile. According to the report, its controls sit on a rail along the screen edge so most are within thumb reach, and customization options allow a more personal setup. It supports extensions, includes a built-in ad blocker and a built-in malware scanner, and provides Chrome compatibility options for sites that work only with Chrome. Android Authority said Solipsism started as a pure Chromium-based project.

The guide is part of a list of nine Chromium browsers for Android. The report said many of the projects are harder to find and install than Chrome, and it focused on those with regular releases, unique features, longevity and usability.
