Android Authority Writer Favors Walmart’s Onn Tablets Over Other Android Brands on Value

According to the column, the family bought the Onn Core 7-inch tablet earlier this summer, mainly for the writer’s youngest son. He was impressed enough that he and his wife bought an Onn 11 Pro about a month later. He wrote that Onn tablets are not for everyone but are a perfect fit for his family.

The column said Onn tablets range from 7 to 13 inches, with the Core 7 starting at $97 and the Onn 13 Pro topping out at $388. The writer argued that few other Android tablet series in that price range avoid sacrificing key features.

Amazon and other retailers offer cheap tablets with similar screen sizes and prices, the writer wrote, but many come from brands of unknown quality and customer service and often skimp on processing power and RAM. He said Onn’s modern tablet lineup uses aluminum casing, which he described as durable and minimalist, though he noted the tablets pick up fingerprints easily.

The Core 7 runs a MediaTek Helio G80 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage with microSD expansion, battery life close to ten hours and a 7-inch display with 1,024 x 600 resolution, according to the column. The writer said it handled browsing, media and his child’s favorite games without problems.

The Onn 11 Pro is priced around $200 and uses a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and an 11-inch IPS LCD with 1,840 x 1,280 resolution. The Onn 13 Pro steps up to a 13.2-inch IPS LCD, a MediaTek MT8775 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The writer said the MT8775 is closely related to the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, making the 13 Pro a midrange device with a large display for under $400. He added that calling the Pro models Pro is a stretch, though they bring upgrades over the Core line.

The writer highlighted Onn’s software as a major difference from most cheap tablets. He said the devices ship with a clean install of Android 16, with optional extras such as an instant games section but no pre-installed adware or Walmart- and Onn-specific apps. Users still get official apps including the Play Store and Gemini. By contrast, he wrote, Amazon sells tablets in a similar price range with ads and bloatware, and users miss official Google apps unless they sideload the Play Store.

The column also listed caveats. The writer said some customers may not feel comfortable buying a Walmart house brand, though he has used an Onn 4K Pro, an Onn monitor and other Onn products without trust issues. He acknowledged occasional minor quirks, saying the front light on his Onn 4K Pro stopped working a year ago but the device still works. He described Core models as multimedia-first devices and said even Pro models are closer to midrange than true flagship territory. The tablets are not aimed at high-end gaming or professional-level drawing, he wrote, but at buyers who want aggressive pricing, clean software and budget-to-midrange performance.
