Android Auto Bug Blocks Outgoing Calls on Closed Flip Foldables, Motorola and Google Investigate

The problem affects flip-style foldables including Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip models. According to user reports cited by the publication, outgoing calls do not work when the phone is folded. Incoming calls are not affected by whether the device is open or closed. When the phone is open, calling works normally.

Users attempting an outgoing call while the foldable is closed say Gemini tells them it is calling the contact, but the call never begins. The reports share a common timing: the calling problem did not appear until Gemini replaced Google Assistant, Android Authority reported.

The reports span several months, with some complaints posted as recently as September. Motorola and Google have been looking into the issue, but no fix appears to have been released. Until a resolution is rolled out, the report says, users who plan to make a call during a drive will need to leave their foldable open.
