Android Auto’s unofficial video player Xtream Player adds games for parked car moments

Xtream Player is the successor to Fermata Xtream, which gained popularity among Android Auto enthusiasts for enabling video playback and other unofficial features on compatible car displays. The developer previously announced that Fermata Xtream was being shut down, only to return with a completely rewritten app. The latest version gives that project another significant upgrade.

The idea for the games came from a familiar scenario: waiting in a parked car while someone runs into a shop. The developer told Android Authority they wanted to put a few simple games on the dashboard for moments when the car is not moving. According to the report, the developer is already working on phone-to-car YouTube playback and a proper EPG guide, with another update expected this weekend.
