Another Disguised Russian Banking App Tops US iPhone App Store

Another disguised Russian banking app, K8CHEN PRO, has reached the top of the US iPhone App Store, according to 9to5Mac.

The disguise falls away quickly once the app is launched. The app's privacy policy, linked from the App Store listing, cites being generated by “Free Privacy Policy Generator,” which may also be a signal. 9to5Mac confirms the app is clearly a client app for T-Bank.

In June, 9to5Mac flagged three instances of U.S.-sanctioned Russian banks sneaking client apps onto the App Store. Two months later, another has slipped through Apple's review process and reached the top chart. 9to5Mac notes it is curious that these apps keep getting through App Store review, and once they become publicized enough to climb the chart, it is obvious they do not belong there.
