Anthbot R7 robot mowers add robotic-arm string trimmer and infrared hedgehog detection

Anthbot unveiled the R7 Series robot mowers at IFA 2026, featuring a robot-arm string trimmer for edge cutting and infrared animal detection to avoid hedgehogs, according to TechRadar.

The EdgeEase system is designed to automatically follow winding lawn boundaries and achieve zero-gap edge cutting without manual touch-ups. TechRadar's editor saw a demonstration on an artificial turf lawn with no actual cutting, noting that the arm moved smoothly and tucked neatly away when not in use.

The editor compared the system with Segway Navimow's mechanical side-trimming, saying which performs better remains to be seen, and expressed surprise that Anthbot did not add a protective casing around the spinning string. A camera dedicated to the trimmer arm monitors the area for obstacles.

The infrared sensor picks up thermal signals from hidden animals such as hedgehogs, allowing the mower to avoid them. Additional features include two floating cutting discs that adjust to uneven ground, all-wheel drive powered by four drive motors and two independent steering motors, and a navigation suite using LiDAR, RTK positioning and three AI-backed cameras.

The R7 Series consists of two models: the R730, designed for lawns up to 3,000 square meters and including the string trimmer as standard, and the R720, intended for yards up to 2,000 square meters, with the trimmer an optional extra.

Anthbot emphasizes that the series is designed for real gardens rather than idealized flat lawns, claiming robust all-scenario positioning that can handle satellite signal gaps and complex environments.
