Anthropic Brings Claude Into Google Docs, Sheets and Slides in Public Beta
Anthropic has launched a public beta Google Workspace add-on that lets Claude edit Docs, Sheets and Slides directly, and new connectors let users start Google file tasks from Claude.
The add-on is designed to remove the copy-and-paste routine that has accompanied using Claude alongside Google Docs. According to Android Authority, users can highlight a paragraph in Docs and ask Claude to shorten it, clean up the wording or change its tone, with the edit applied directly in the document. In Sheets, Claude can write formulas, build pivot tables, create charts, clean up data and add new tabs. In Slides, it can work on presentations without requiring users to move content back and forth.
Anthropic is also giving users control over how Claude makes changes. The default Ask before edits mode shows an approval card before an edit is applied, while Accept all edits allows Claude to complete a task without stopping for confirmation each time.
Separately, Anthropic is launching Google Docs, Sheets and Slides connectors for Claude, Android Authority reported. These connectors allow users to start tasks from Claude rather than from Workspace. For example, a user could paste a Google Sheets link into Claude and ask it to reorganize the data, or ask Claude to create a new presentation from a collection of notes. On supported setups, the file can open alongside the Claude conversation, keeping the workflow in one place, according to the report.
The move places Claude on Google's home turf. Google already has Gemini deeply integrated into Docs, Sheets and Slides, and the Workspace add-on gives users who prefer Claude another option without forcing them to leave the Google apps they use every day. Android Authority described the add-on as a potentially useful upgrade for people who prefer Claude but still work inside Google Workspace.
